Description

Figure 182 from Chapter 5 (Endoplasmic Reticulum) of 'The Cell, 2nd Ed.' by Don W. Fawcett M.D. Electron micrograph of liver from a hamster treated with phenobarbitol for four days. Chronic exposure to the drug caused hypertrophy of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum, which now occupies nearly all of the space in the cytoplasm. A PDF copy of the accompanying chapter is available on the ASCB’s BioEDUCATE website.
