Description

Figure 187 from Chapter 5 (Endoplasmic Reticulum) of 'The Cell, 2nd Ed.' by Don W. Fawcett M.D. An abundance of smooth endoplasmic reticulum is apparent in this Leydig cell of the opossum testes, associated with the synthesis of cholesterol and biogenesis of steroids. From Christensen and Fawcett (1961) J. Biophys. Biochem. Cytol. 9:653. A PDF copy of the accompanying chapter is available on the ASCB’s BioEDUCATE website.
