Description

Figure 429 from Chapter 16 (Cytoplasmic matrix and cytoskeleton) of 'The Cell, 2nd Ed.' by Don W. Fawcett M.D. A high magnification image showing interdigitation between actin and myosin filaments at the end of the A-band. Unfixed muscle was quick-frozen using liquid helium, fractured, and deep etched. Image by John Heuser. A PDF copy of the accompanying chapter is available on the ASCB’s BioEDUCATE website.
